Inspection Questionnaire for Pupils

Ofsted have just published their new Inspection questionnaires for pupils. There are differing versions for KS2 and KS34.

Here are the KS2 questions:

  1. I enjoy school
  2. My school helps me to be healthy
  3. I feel safe when I am at school
  4. I learn a lot in lesson
  5. Behaviour is good at my school
  6. Adults in my school care about me
  7. Adults at school are interested in my views
  8. I know how well I am doing at school
  9. Adults explain to me how to improve my work
  10. My school helps me to get ready to move into my next class
  11. The headteacher and senior staff in my school do a good job
Pupils can either mark a tick, a cross or leave the question blank.
No surprises, but we're unsure whether questions 10 & 11 are likely to give useful results from this age group.

Here are the KS3/4 questions:
  1. I enjoy school
  2. My school helps me to be healthy
  3. I feel safe when I am at school
  4. I learn a lot in lessons
  5. Behaviour is good at my school
  6. Adults care about me
  7. Teachers are interested in my views
  8. I know how well I am doing at school
  9. Adults explain to me how to improve my work
  10. My school helps me to prepare for the future (for example to change year group, to change school, or for pupils finishing school, to enter further or higher education, or to enter employment)
  11. The headteacher and senior staff in my school do a good job
KS3/4 pupils are asked to Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree or Strongly Disagree with each statement. The year group is also requested which would allow segmented analysis.

In addition, Ofsted have also issued guidance about how to issue the surveys to pupils. It's not necessarily a full population survey unless the school has <150 pupils.
So if you have between 150 and 800 pupils, for example you only have to issue 100 surveys. Oh, and don't just think you can choose any hundred pupils - the 'guidance' states every 4th pupil on the register.....
